The fifth and sixth graders are participating in the “Art of Looking” program sponsored by the Barnes Foundation this Fall. This program utilizes a multi-curriculum format that integrates key curriculum standards in math and science along with exposure to the arts.
The program introduces the students to art from many cultures and time periods, expressed through a variety of mediums. Students are invited to draw inferences that reinforce the values of equality, respect and understanding. The program includes two lessons in the classroom and a field trip to the museum.
The students are very excited about this opportunity to get a close up look at well known art works and learn about different artists. The first lesson on Wednesday was a big success. The students were introduced to VanGogh’s The Postman, Cezanne’s The Card Players, and Modigliani’s Redheaded Girl in Evening Dress.
They can’t wait for their trip to the Barnes Museum on the 19th!
