Adult Education Program Begins Health and Wellness Workshops

Adult Education Program Begins Health and Wellness Workshops

Earlier this month, Hope’s Adult Education Program launched its first Health and Wellness workshops designed especially for its Adult Learning Community. The Health and Wellness workshops will be offered each academic session as a way to help adults gain a better understanding of how lifestyle impacts health.

This first workshop focused on the basics of diabetes. Almost one in 10 Americans have type 2 diabetes, including several of our own adult learners. We were honored to have Endocrinologist and Hope Partnership Board Member Andy Quint come speak to us about the causes, treatments, and management of type 2 diabetes. About 20 of our adult learners were present that day to hear Dr. Quint speak in a very informal setting. Dr. Quint fielded many questions and facilitated an important conversation which carried on among the community, even after the workshop ended.

Our next workshop is planned for the fall and will focus on nutrition. If you or someone you know is a health professional and would like to hold a conversation about relevant health and wellness issues with our adult learners, we would be grateful to have you participate and bring your expertise to our adult learning community.
