31 Mar Universal Visitation Day – Class of 2020
Every March across the city of Philadelphia 7th graders have the opportunity to visit Archdiocesan high schools. For many of our students this may be the very first time for the them to travel alone on public transportation see what high school may like to be for the day. Students visited schools like Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls, Mercy Career and Technical High School, and Neumann Goretti High School.
Hope’s Class of 2020 was asked to write a reflection piece on their experience at various high schools. We asked them all what they liked and did not like about their experience, as well as what they need to do now to prepare for high school. Here is what some of them had to say!
“I can prepare right now for high school by coming every day on time, and not missing any days of school. I know that I need to do that so that I can get into a good high school, so that I can go to college in the future.” – Andreal, Class of 2020
“I liked my experience because the high school I went to has a huge music program with lots of instruments. When we went there, we got to play the instruments too. I actually started to play the drums and kind of fell in love with them. We had about 45 minutes in each class, and I spent the whole time playing the drums.” – Sincere, Class of 2020
“What I need to do now to prepare myself is to work really hard on my academics. Do really well on my PSSA’s, meaning I have to score really high. I also have to get teacher recommendations from my teachers, so I can even apply to some high schools. Lastly, I need my high school essay done before school starts again in the fall. I want to start early!” – Taylor, Class of 2020
Next up for Hope’s Class of 2020 will be our Mock Admissions Interviews with Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School! Each year our 7th graders get to chat with admissions counselors and learn more about the process of applying to high school and what it takes to have a great interview. They’ve already started to think about their Top 10 schools and are beginning to prep for the PSSA. Although they have a long journey ahead of them, we know that they will be ready for high school placement challenge!
