Celebrating With Wordles

In the midst of a busy December, Hope’s administrative team wanted to acknowledge all of the staff members who are directly responsible for our programs and the educational achievements at Hope, i.e. the middle school teachers, graduate support staff, and adult education teachers. Little did we know that this would be one of the most rewarding experiences of the year!

The modest gift our team was offering staff was a double frame with a picture of the teacher with some of his/her students and a computer generated holiday symbol made of words. We adapted this idea from one we read on line and incorporated an additional element, we involved our students-that’s where the magic happened! We asked the student body president for assistance with the project and gathered the students to name words that described their teachers. The students, asked in groups and surrounded by their peers, responded with such enthusiasm and perceptive and positive descriptions that we were overwhelmed (remember, we’re working with middle school students starting at fifth grade!). The exercise was a tribute to the quality of our staff and the core values that are being internalized by our students. Our administrative team wound up with our own present–an authentic experience of Hope.
